The XIII Legion is the military institution through which both campaigns are experienced. At Thoas it fights an ork power while trying to recover a human past. The Twenty-Second exposes differences inside that institution: specialist methods, pride, and contested reform can complicate a shared doctrine.
At Calth, the Legion’s expected cooperation with the Word Bearers becomes the attack’s opportunity. Surviving members rebuild command and challenge assumptions that had excluded brother Legionaries from the category of enemy. The collection follows the Legion at these particular moments. It does not treat a military roster as a complete history, or turn its survival into a claim that Calth’s strategic damage was reversed.
